    Android still dominates..and Windows Phone got phase



    Windows Phone has been moving ahead in the platform race for the couple of quarter in the year. In the first quarter of 2013, we saw the Windows Phone OS leap ahead of BlackBerry OS with 3.2% market share and in the second quarter we saw the Windows Phone OS posting the fastest growth with 3.7% market. The Q3 2013 results reveal that the the Windows Phone OS is still growing with 3.6% market share globally, primarily driven by the support of Nokia. Android still dominates the market with 81% share, with 211.6 device shipments. It has grown by 1.7% ,compared to last quarter and has increased 51.3% YoY.


    Windows Phone shipments account for 9.5 million devices, compared to 8.7 million last quarter. It has grown 156% (year over year)YoY, which is definitely a great thing. BlackBerry managed to ship just 4.5 million, less than the last quarter, and the OS share has dropped to 4.5% in the quarter, compared to 6.8% in the last quarter. It was year-over-year decline of 41.6% mainly due to the due to  the softer demand for its new BB10 operating system and continued demand for its older BB7 within emerging markets, says IDC.

    Average selling prices (ASPs) for smartphones continued to decline since there are increase in affordable devices grows. ASPs were down -12.5% in 3Q13 and the average price was $317. ASPs of phablets in the quarter were higher than the market average at $443, but it was down -22.8% from the $573 phablet ASP YoY.
